ABOUT BLACKBEAM CINEMATIC
THE JOURNEY SO FAR…
Established by Al Leslie and Kaz Bedford in 2018, to find out about Blackbeam Cinematic, you need to journey back to the 1990s. The two met while studying sculpture at the Royal College of Art before setting up studios in London amidst the creativity of the YBA movement.
Kaz was part of Damien Hirst’s creative team for 20 years, initially in London, before moving down to the westcountry to work in his North Devon studio. Kaz manages the Blackbeam Cinematic office, working as Blackbeam’s event coordinator to take projects from concept to installation.
Al spent his early career building sets for the film industry and exhibition sector, going on to develop interactive electronics for consumer and trade shows. His interest in programming led to him working on projects focused on visitor-interfacing media at shows and exhibitions across Europe and the Middle East.
This experience, combined with an interest in soundscapes, audio experiences and cinema, contributed to him setting up LT Projects in 2012. The company specialised in developing interactive and experiential projects, through visual and audio media, for Merlin Entertainments and a handful of creative agencies.
Inspired by the belief that the future of entertainment lies in building cinematic immersive experiences and the role that high quality projection plays in engaging audiences, Al set up Blackbeam in North Devon in 2018, with Kaz joining two years later.
Blackbeam Cinematic now comprises Al, Kaz and a team of different specialists who contribute their particular, and unique, skills depending on the project. Return to homepage.
